THE HORSES

The horses reside at the sanctuary, located in the Sierra Norte de Sevilla nature park between Almadén de la Plata and Real de la Jara. At the foundation's main site, alongside older and blind horses requiring extra care, you'll find horses recovering upon arrival. All these horses live in the 'Nico' pasture, their own paddocks, or (open) stables.

In a private, enclosed section of the nature park live the remaining horses, existing in complete freedom 24/7 within various herds. These herds are checked daily, with horses brought to the sanctuary if needed.

Horses available for remote adoption can be found on the Sponsor a Horse page. These horses are elderly, recovering, or permanently mentally/physically impaired, making them (currently) unsuitable for rehoming.

Since the founding of Horse in Need Spain, we've had to say goodbye to many horses. Each one still holds a special place in our hearts and the foundation's. On the In memoriam page, you'll find a tribute to all the horses and ponies who lived at the sanctuary but are no longer with us.

The current list is far from complete – we're gradually updating it between other tasks.
